NORTHERN LIGHTS

This series of photographs were taken on a trip to Tromso in Norway in January 2018 where I was lucky enough to experience the wondrous Aurora Borealis, also known as the Northern Lights. One of these photographs was chosen for the 2019 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. The night the photos were taken it was minus 12 and very dark. The lights come and go so it is a matter of waiting for exactly the right moment and when the lights moved behind the house I knew that was going to make a great photograph. The camera was set on a tripod low on the ground and I had to lie in the snow peering through the viewfinder. The exposure of 8 seconds captures the way the lights move across the sky.
